IET Faraday Challenge Day Success!
Congratulations to our Year 8 students who are heading into the national final!

This term six Year 8 students were chosen to represent Seaford College at Great Ballard School for the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge.
Katherine Welch, Teacher of Science said: “They competed against three other groups from other local schools, including Great Ballard, Churcher’s and Prebendal, to design, develop and present a product to fit a specified brief. The Faraday Challenge Days are an annual STEM competition with a real-world application, and over 300 Challenge Days take place over the course of the school year across the UK.
After receiving their brief, each team had to plan an initial idea, complete a short engineering task, then ‘buy’ their materials from a shop to build a prototype of their product. The final part of the day required each team to present their product to the rest of the group, explaining how it works and why it fits the brief.

The team from Seaford performed amazingly, choosing a ‘divide and conquer’ approach (in their own words!) and showing great teamwork and innovation throughout the day. They also presented their work confidently, and were able to reflect on what they would have improved. Their presentation and their teamwork resulted in them winning the day, and they were awarded a trophy to bring back to school. Their score will now go on to a school league table, and they could be invited to a national final at the end of the school year. Massive congratulations to Ella, Hannah, Clara, Charlie, Theo and Rupert!”
