Rugby at Seaford College encourages a sense of sportsmanship and camaraderie in each player.

The ethos of ‘playing hard, but playing fair’ is promoted and followed through at every fixture. Rugby at Seaford stretches the most able, while giving the opportunity for everyone to play and enjoy the game.

I love rugby because it gives you an opportunity to express yourself in a way through hard work and skills, whilst it also helps me to stay fit and look at the nutrition side of sport which I can take into everyday life. But the main thing is it helps to block out everything else that is happening in my life meaning I don’t have to worry about anything whilst I’m playing rugby and knowing I am enjoying myself."

Coaching and Facilities

Boys play rugby at Seaford College in the Winter Term. Teams have the use of eight rugby pitches spread out across Seaford’s stunning grounds and receive the benefit of excellent coaching for all ages and abilities. We have a range of coaches from Level 2 to Level 4.

Seaford Rugby Coaches

At Seaford we're very proud of our sporting ethos. We are very lucky to attract great coaches and teachers who work hard to support and develop our students.

We captured this photo at our Sports Dinner with all of our staff who have played professional rugby. From left to right in this photo:

Matches and Teams

Each week the fixtures card presents Seaford’s rugby teams with competitive matches across the board. The Fixtures Programme is developing all of the time, and we now play some of the top teams in the country on a Saturday and in various tournaments throughout the year. Teams also play in national competitions such as the Natwest Cup, and the U18s and U16s enter the Sussex Cup, which the U18s have won three years in a row. The U18s have been hugely successful in recent seasons, reflecting the excellent coaching available at Seaford and the hard work and dedication of all the players.

Seaford College is proud to send out ten different teams, so students of all abilities have the chance to compete against other schools. Some students may never have played rugby before and Seaford represents their first taste of playing the sport competitively. Others play the sport at national, county, regional, and club level, and are stretched at Seaford by the range of matches and tournaments on offer.

I love playing rugby at Seaford because not only is it brilliant fun, but also it is so inclusive. Everybody can play for a team no matter what their ability is. Personally, what I love mainly about rugby is that there is so much competition for places in the team. So I must improve myself every week to make sure I stay in the A team. Also, there is no prejudice between the teams, the A team and B team are considered equals and nobody is looked down upon."

Opportunities

Recent rugby tours have included a visit to South Africa and Australia and New Zealand in 2017. In the Spring Term, there is a chance to play Rugby 7s, and teams enter competitions such as the Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s tournament. Seaford also takes part in Sedburgh 10s and the prestigious Merchiston Castle Tri-Nations Rugby Festival in Edinburgh. Seaford hosts our own popular and successful Rugby 7s tournament each January.
