Being a Peer Mentor at Seaford College

Our students play a crucial role supporting other students.

We’re looking forward to welcoming over 100 delegates to our inaugural Young Pastoral Leaders’ Event tomorrow at Seaford College.

Delegates include students and staff from a range of Prep and Senior Schools. The event is about getting young people together who are taking a pastoral role in their schools and sharing best practice.

Jo Forman, Assistant Head (Safeguarding and Wellbeing) DSL said: “At Seaford our Pastoral Leaders are called Peer Mentors and I’m looking forward to seeing all the students working together to share ideas. We have Peer Mentors in our Prep School and Senior School and you can’t underestimate the impact they have on other students. The power of students speaking to students and supporting them is enormous and we tap into that as much as possible. They’re brilliant and we hugely appreciate them.

Pastoral care and wellbeing are embedded in Seaford’s culture. Everyone plays their part in this on a daily basis. Seaford's wellbeing programme is embedded in everything we do, and it is the interactions that our staff and students and peer mentors and students have with each other on a daily basis that makes the difference. Crucially our pastoral and wellbeing initiatives are tailored to the students and offer flexibility according to need and what works.”

In this video our Peer Mentors explain the role they play in school life at Seaford. Year 12 students work as Peer Mentors and they’re trained in this important role. Thank you to everyone who takes part each year, you're hugely appreciated!
