Seaford's Congo Assembly Video - Love to sing
An uplifting way to start a week at Seaford.
Jenni Hawkins, Head of Academic Music, spoke to us about Congo Assembly this term. Congo stands for congregational singing and students in our Senior School and Sixth Form enjoy taking part in these sessions each term. It’s a very uplifting way to start the week and students are in their Houses and enjoy the connection of singing together. Singing in a group often feels like a combination of belonging, connection, and a sense of shared purpose with others, creating a positive and uplifting experience due to the release of endorphins, it’s often described as a feeling of unity.
Jenni said: “Singing at school is something we think is really important at Seaford. We sing together at Congo, and we’ve added a competitive House element which students really love. I love it as a Music Teacher and I’m passionate about these things. The students love it and it’s so great for their wellbeing, we always end Congo on a high and it’s a great way to start the week.”
In this video students sing Once in Royal David’s City, the first hymn at our Carol Services in Chichester Cathedral today. Join us for a magical Carol Service to get you into the festive spirit at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
