Boarding Houses

Mansion is a girls’ boarding house for students in Years 9–12, but a small number of students from the Prep School also board here. Emilie Le Barth is the Houseparent for girls at Mansion House, and Seb d’Agar is the Resident Assistant for the Prep School students.

We love to spend time with all my boarders on a one-to-one basis, finding out what their interests are and encouraging them to try new things. The most important thing is to create a happy, safe, homely and nurtured environment."

Walled Garden is split into two buildings: Walled Garden West and Walled Garden East.

Both of them are boys’ boarding houses for students in Years 9–12. Matthew Pitteway is Head of Boarding at Seaford College and the Houseparent for Walled Garden West. Tony Ashton is the Houseparent for Walled Garden East.

Certain elements are all standardised at Seaford. For example, bed times, policies on signing in/out in the evenings, insistence on tidy rooms. However, a boarding house is an extension of oneself and therefore every boarding house should have a different feel. All Houseparents want the best for the students in their care but we all go about things in a different way."

Heden is a mixed boarding house for the Upper Sixth Form, with boys in Heden Hall and girls in Heden Court. Here, students have greater independence, greater responsibilities, and the young adults that live here have a taster of the independence, responsibility, and opportunities that they can expect upon completion of their studies at Seaford. Heden is excellent preparation for university.

Our Houseparents of the Upper Sixth Boarding Houses are: Sara Reynolds, Heden Court (Girls) and Dr Nick Pothecary, Heden Hall (Boys). 

Being a Houseparent involves being the best parent you can be to every student, whether that is guiding their academic studies, helping them solve their problems, or supporting them on the sports field."

When a student reaches the Sixth Form they have to be allowed to have opinions, feelings, and thoughts that prove to them that they are more in charge of their own destiny. Our job is to guide them towards making the best choices. Enormous satisfaction comes when a teenager reaches their potential in whatever part of life is important to them."

Heden Court feels like a home from home for our Sixth Form girls. In essence, this is because they are all part of our extended family. Our aim is to be the best Houseparents possible by being responsible, kind, caring, and considerate to every girl's needs.

We both have fond memories of boarding at our own schools and know the benefits that a close 'family feel' community can bring to every student.

We strive for openness, honesty, and integrity from our girls and expect them to set a fine example for the rest of the school to follow."
