He said: “A community is a group of people living and growing together.”

He spoke about exams and understanding how students who are currently taking exams may feel. He added: “it’s our responsibility to encourage them and to give them space if they need it. A community is about inspiring each other and sharing values.”

Fr. Colin said: “This is what it means to be part of a community. We support the people that need it. We’re all together and we’re all connected. Right in the middle of this is Jed and his mum because they need our prayers and support.”
The service ended with everyone singing ‘Count on me’ by Bruno Mars.

After the service Jed’s mum said: “That was a lovely experience, I feel very emotional. It means a lot to us to feel supported and to know that people are thinking of us. In December 2018 it was confirmed that Jed (age 12) has an ASD, which is a hole in his heart. Jed is a very active boy; he loves his rugby, hockey and athletics so this was a big upset for him.

After visiting Great Ormond Street Hospital in February they confirmed that he has a 2cm hole that requires open heart surgery to fix it. On 31st May 2019 Jed is going into GOSH to have his operation and mend his hole (as he puts it). GOSH have been amazing to us and have offered full support not just for Jed but for the whole family. Jed has decided that he wanted to do this to raise funds for GOSH for everything they do for children at this wonderful hospital.

We are doing a 5k walk for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity because of the support they have given us as a family. Jed also plans to do a sponsored run for the British Heart Foundation and he’s looking forward to getting back to Seaford to run the cross country, which he really enjoys.”
