Congratulations to Seaford’s Rugby Captain, Jonny Green, on your selection for the Wales U20 squad this weekend.

 

At the age of just 17, Seaford 1st XV’s second row rugby player Jonny Green has been called up to play for the Wales under-20 team this weekend against Scotland.  Jonny is the youngest person on the squad by far and has three years left in this age group. 

The Year 13 student’s progress has been tracked by the Welsh Under-20s management for some time and was called up to train with the squad at the prestigious Vale Resort in South Wales a few weeks ago. 

“It was big step up physically and with the pace of the game,” said Jonny. “I’m excited to play this weekend because I’ve been a Welsh supporter growing up and always wanted to play for Wales.” 

 

Playing rugby at a high level goes back a long way on both sides of Jonny’s family, with his father playing for England U16, U18, U23 and his mother’s father and brother both playing. Jonny’s mother is very proud to be Welsh - and is an avid Wales rugby supporter!

Jonny’s precocious talent has been recognised for many years at Seaford, and as a 15 year old, he was picked to play for the Harlequins under-18s side, and has captained the Quins team for the past two seasons. 

 

Jonny has been at Seaford since he was 10 years old and for the past five years has been guided by Director of Sport, Liam Doubler, also a big fan of Welsh rugby. 

“I am so, so pleased for Jonny,” said Liam. “What an outstanding achievement! He thoroughly deserves this opportunity and I know he will make the most of it.  I am so proud of him and quite emotional as I know how hard he has worked on and off the pitch, he is developing into an outstanding rugby player, leader and person. 

“I am looking forward to seeing him wear the famous red jersey. Congratulations, Jonny! Or llongyfarchiadau, as we say in Wales.”
