Seaford students had an excellent two days racing at Worthing Sailing Club.

Seaford students took part in the WSSYSA Regatta at the weekend. Paul Harker, who runs the sailing at Seaford, said: “Over the weekend, we had an excellent two days racing at Worthing Sailing Club up against a lot of strong sailors, with six races sailed and two discards.

Very well done to Henry Jones and Lucy Pitman, who are proving to be an excellent team sailing together in their RS Feva XL, for winning the Medium Fleet, with three firsts and a second.  Oscar Pitman was 4th in the Fast Fleet, and 3rd Laser Radial, with a best race placing of second.  Ed Gordon-Thomson in the same fleet was 12th (out of 17) with best placing of 7th, having entered the final day in 15th place, and Ben Cotton 13th, with a best of 5th, but sadly had to retire during the first race on the Sunday with a broken mast, which dragged him down the placings from 10th at the end of Saturday.  A great performance by all!

It was also great to see Bray and Fen Todd, who have just joined us in Year 7, out on the water for their first sailing regatta, competing with Felpham Sailing Club.

The weather was glorious, and the WSSYSA and Worthing Sailing Club put on a fantastic event, which it was really great to be a part of.  Particular thanks to Ryan Breach of Itchenor SC who was race officer (and who will also be hosting the event next year on 2nd and 3rd September), all the WSSYSA committee, and Duncan Oakden of Worthing SC for organising.  Also to Tim Pitman, for the close up on the water photos!”
