We welcomed Edward to two fantastic workshops this term

This term, actor Edward Bennett came to Seaford College to run two workshops, a Drama Scholar’s workshop for Years 9 to 13 based on approaches to text and a BTEC Performing Arts workshop based on Edward Bennett’s work with Frantic Assembly on the production ‘Lovesong.’ Edward has vast experience as an Actor on Stage and Screen, where he has worked with a range of companies and directors, ranging from ‘The Royal Shakespeare Company’ to playing Freddie in the Peter Hall’s Pygmalion.

Head of Drama John Johnson was delighted with the workshop, particularly the practical skills that students gained from the time with Edward: "This was a fresh and original approach to exploring a text and students can use these techniques when working on monologues and plays in the future. Many had not considered the importance of Rhetoric and the elements of Ethos, Logos and Pathos and it was wonderful to see students integrating this into their own vocal delivery."

Drama Scholar Sofia Mattinson (Year 10) was full of praise for the workshop: "I enjoyed the workshop with Edward, I thought his techniques on teaching us how to act more natural and more assertive with what we were saying was very effective. I also thought what he had to say about character building and knowing that you will make mistakes and fail in drama was very accurate. He taught me a lot. Overall, I’d love to do more workshops with him, I had a lot of fun."

We hope to work with Edward in the future and it was great to see student’s applying his advice when they worked on our production of George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Pygmalion’ at the start of December.
