We wish Charlie the best of luck as he heads out to Spain this month to play cricket for Scotland.

Year 13 student, Charlie Tear, has been selected for the Scotland-U19 squad for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup Qualifiers to be played in Spain this month.

Charlie, who also plays for West Chiltington and Thakeham Cricket Club, is one of just 14 boys chosen for the squad.

Seaford College Head of Cricket Chris Adams said he was delighted for Charlie, who has graduated through the College’s performance cricket programme. “This is just reward for an incredibly hard-working student,” he said. “He continues to impress as a developing cricketer and a leading example when it comes to attitude. This is a fabulous opportunity and an experience he will remember all his life. Good luck Charlie and, of course, Scotland.”

Charlie’s mother, Elspeth McVey, said: “We are all very proud and excited about this opportunity for Charlie and wish him an enjoyable and successful tournament representing Scotland.”

Lead Coach of the Scotland team Cedric English said: “There is a really good level of experience and maturity in the group. A few have been to the World Cup in South Africa, but it’s also been great to see some of the newer players performing well in the run-up to the tournament. Playing in a tournament environment is completely different, but I’m confident that we’ll be able to put what we’ve been working on over the last three months into practice and perform well out there.”

The winners of the tournament will go on to the ICC Under-19s World Cup in 2022.
