Performing Arts

Performing Arts at Seaford is a busy, buzzing department full of high academic standards and high achieving students. Our aim is to see the potential performer in every student, to foster their love of performing and their joy in preparing performances. 

This brings an overwhelming number of budding performers into the department, where they are nurtured to be the very best they can be.

Extra-curricular activities provide students with personal development opportunities through learning from experience. This experience comes from students’ active participation in the activities that are available beyond their chosen academic subjects. The aim of this system is to learn and develop during that time. Extra-curricular activities include the non-selective Senior Choir, the Chapel Choir, Chamber Choir, School Orchestra, String Group, Wind Trio, Jazz Band, Drum Core, an annual play and school musical, a Rock Band and Band Jam, Soul Band, extra music theory clubs, LAMDA lessons and exams, masterclasses, and competitions. Seaford supports students through the Associated Board and Trinity Board music exams right through to Diploma level and Advanced Performing Certificates.

A great strength of Performing Arts at Seaford is the quality of our teaching. There are six academic members of staff in Music, Drama, and Dance, all of whom bring a considerable breadth of professional experience in their teaching – providing students with a huge variety of opportunities at the highest level. Seaford also has eighteen visiting peripatetic music, LAMDA, and dance teachers offering the highest quality teaching in a huge variety of instruments and disciplines. Whatever the artistic interest of our students, Seaford offers them a stimulating environment to help them reach their potential. 

Performances throughout the year welcome participation by all students and not just A Level Music, Drama, and Dance students, and include weekly lunchtime concerts, music scholar recitals, orchestral workshops, large scale termly concerts, competitive music, dance and drama festivals, a large scale rock concert (Seafordstock), and many vocal experiences including singing at Chichester Cathedral.  Seaford’s vocal reputation leads to invites to many venues, including in London and at the Bournemouth International Centre where Seaford’s Choir sang with Gary Barlow in concert. 

Sixth Form offers two academic music A Level subjects – Music and Music Technology – as well as a BTEC in Performing Arts. They are rigorous courses that prepare students for university and enable applicants from Seaford to stand out in an increasingly competitive and crowded field.  Every opportunity is taken to promote a genuine appreciation of academic disciplines as well as fostering lifelong learning and a genuine love of all performing arts.
