In the Summer Term, spectators gather at the Oval to watch Seaford College’s teams play cricket.

The Oval is a unique setting, nestled at the foot of the South Downs, with stunning views across the College’s grounds and the surrounding countryside.

FACILITIES AND COACHING

Seaford College has four outdoor grass pitches, including the scenic Oval, and two AstroTurf pitch for junior teams from the Prep School. There is an eight lane net facility and extra square and a further six nets indoors – rivalling most indoor facilities in the county. The coaching team boasts several cricket specialists, led by Head of Cricket Chris Adams, a former Sussex captain and England Test player.

Students receive the benefit of excellent coaching for all ages and abilities. We have a range of coaches from Level 2 to Level 4.The Fixture Programme is developing all of the time and we now play some of the top teams in the country on a Saturday and during the various tournaments throughout the year. There is also the opportunity to go on tour: our cricket tour to Barbados was very popular, with Seaford playing against several prestigious teams. Girls’ cricket is a rapidly growing sport at Seaford in the Prep and Senior School.

“There is a real buzz around Seaford Cricket, and the new eight lane net facility and extra square have been full of girls and boys practising under the watchful eye of Mr Chris Adams and the cricket staff. There have been some notable performances throughout the College but a winning performance by our 1st XI against a strong MCC XI was right up there. There have been a lot of girls’ cricket matches throughout the College and our girls’ 1st XI got off to a winning start against Lancing. A special mention for Harriet Thornton who made her 1st XI debut for the boys’ team this season. We have introduced girls’ cricket into the Prep and Senior Schools and lots of the sessions are taught in a co-ed environment which is fantastic to see. ETHOS

‘Cricket for everybody’ is a key ethos promoted by the coaching staff, who are keen to instil an enduring love for the game in all players. Cricket is a sport that stimulates mental growth and students are encouraged to develop a tactical understanding of the game. A real team ethos flourishes among all age groups, who learn the values of hard work, concentration, and perseverance.
