Academic

For years, Seaford College has been providing children aged 5–18 with the very best that an independent education can offer.

We offer an all-round education that enables your child to develop the high self-esteem essential for success in not only the academic curriculum but also our extensive co-curricular provision.

We have an excellent record for academic achievement, sport, art and music, and aim for all students to achieve their ‘personal bests’ in every activity they engage with. In the academic curriculum, we believe that effective teaching in lessons and targeted prep will enable students to achieve this aim in all curriculum subjects. We recognise that your child is at the heart of the process and that inspiring each individual to aspire to be the very best they can possibly be is the key to a student reaching their potential.

One of our biggest aims is to educate the whole person: to nurture individuality and an acceptance of others’ strengths and weaknesses, to develop initiative and an enquiring mind: a hunger for life. We aim to develop well-rounded individuals who have ambition, courage and confidence, as well as empathy and compassion for others.

One of our broader academic aims is to keep the range of subjects as wide as possible, for as long as possible, for as many students as possible, to provide them with the opportunity to discover their passions, their strengths, and their talents. Our aim is to keep this breadth of choice because some students will excel in subjects on the fringe of the National Curriculum, and we believe in recognising these skills and developing them, to build greater confidence that will positively impact the rest of their learning.

We believe that dedicated teaching, innovative academic methods and hard work from students will lead to them achieving their personal bests. Seaford College offers individual flight paths to enable a student to reach their personal bests in all subjects. Our unique Challenge Grades system inspires students to have realistic yet ambitious targets, and gives them confidence to succeed. All students have dedicated prep time, and will expect to do around one and a half hours’ homework each evening in the Senior School, and Prep School students will either have an hour of prep time under supervision or will attend one of the many clubs and activities.

Teachers at Seaford are friendlier and more approachable. I’m really motivated to achieve higher things and to fulfil my potential."

In order to keep apace with modern learning needs, we are constantly adding new buildings and improving existing facilities. In the heart of the School, our Maths and Science block offers the latest technologies and facilities for students in purpose-built, light and airy classrooms, all with interactive whiteboards and Wi-Fi technology, while our Music School has facilities that are second-to-none, for composing, practising, performing, and recording. We have also recently opened our newly-refurbished Sixth Form Centre, English Department and a new modern Library.

There was a lot of praise for the effort put in by teachers: ‘what makes this school special is its staff’; ‘the commitment of staff is extraordinary’; ‘teachers go above and beyond."

I can’t stop smiling today, I didn’t think we could better the results from last year! English Language achieved 19% grade 9, English Literature achieved 24% grade 9.  This is down to a dedicated, hardworking team and the hard work and ambition of students.  The School culture of learning and the excellent pastoral support across the School is world-class."
