NSEA National Plate Championships

NSEA National Plate ChampionshipsA team of riders from Seaford travelled up to the NSEA National Plate Championships which was held at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe near Bedford.

Lorna Leatherdale-Edwards, Abigail Jupp, Emily Cook and Bella Crowley had qualified for the 75cm competition last summer and were very excited as it was their first Championships and first time staying away with their ponies.

NSEA National Plate ChampionshipsCompetition was fierce with qualified school teams coming from all over the UK with a very competitive but sportsmanlike atmosphere. All our four riders jumped in the warm up Scurry class with Emily riding a fantastic speedy clear round to come 4th individually. Then the ponies were settled for the night in the onsite stables and the parents and children had supper in the Cafe.

NSEA National Plate ChampionshipsThe next morning was an early start as a couple of the ponies were very excited by the atmosphere and needed settling. The competition was in three parts with the first round including a timed jump off and then the top eight teams going forward to a further jump off over a different and higher course. The girls all rode brilliant rounds meaning we were one of the top teams to go through to the finals and ended up in 7th place over all. A particular well done to Bella on her tiny pony Silver who jumped clear all weekend with some very tight jump off turns and to Emily for having the fastest time of the day but unluckily rolling a pole.

Jessie Schute, who had qualified individually on both her ponies, rode very well in the 85cm and 95cm classes, coming in the top ten on Marco.

It was a great weekend and our young riders will have learnt lots from this experience.
Thank you to everyone at the NSEA for putting on such a great show and to the parents for their support as ever.
