Seaford College celebrated the end of the school year with the annual Speech and Prize Giving Day. 1,500 parents, students and staff packed into the Sports Hall and listened to speeches from Headmaster John Green and Guest Speaker, the extreme sportsman Tim Emmett. Tim then presented over 200 prizes to students who had achieved their personal bests in all aspects of the Seaford Community
Speaking after presenting the prizes, Tim said he felt extremely privileged to be invited as the Guest Speaker and was overwhelmed by the welcome he received from the school. “When you arrive at Seaford College you can tell this school is really special and it has been a real privilege to be here today.”
Tim is one of the world’s best rock climbers and he has established some of the hardest rock climbs in Cuba, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Wales. He is a published author who is always looking to push the boundaries of physical and mental performance. Tim spoke about the characteristics and skills that have been essential to him during his successful career as an extreme sportsman.
“I really believe that people who do extraordinary things have a special and simple ingredient that they use. They try that little bit harder and incorporate that into all the little things they do on a daily basis. That becomes a cumulative effect and leads to them doing very special and extraordinary things.”
Tim also highlighted Seaford College’s core ethos of everyone trying to achieve their personal best. “It is not just about being the best at Seaford College. It’s about putting in the most amount of effort, and doing your best. It is brilliant how any student can win an award by putting their mind to it and applying themselves. The core ethos at Seaford College is unique and very special.”
Headmaster John Green spoke about the year of achievement at Seaford College and wished all those students leaving the school every success in the future and thanked them for all their efforts during their time at Seaford College.
“It was wonderful to see so many children getting prizes for their efforts this year”, Mr Green said. “Tim gave a fantastic message about always trying your best because that is exactly what we encourage every student to do here at Seaford College because you never know what you might achieve.”
