The Old Seafordians Golf Society recently held their annual golf day at North Hants Golf Club. It was a chance for the Old Seafordians to play on one of the top courses in the area and share some memories of their days at Seaford College.
24 Old Seafordians, 3 current students and 4 masters, including Headmaster John Green, played the course, with David Poulson and Matthew Rose the individual winners on the day. Current Seaford student Johnny Green amassed an impressive 39 points in the stableford competition.
Nick Tull, the captain of the Old Seafordians Golf Team, was delighted with how the day went and the standard of golf on show. “It has been a brilliant turnout and this event is going from strength to strength”, he commented. “We have been playing on one of the top courses in the South East of England and I think that has helped attract a bigger field of golfers for today’s competition.”
Old Seafordian Matthew Rose, who is now one of the world’s most renowned operatic singers, enjoyed meeting up with fellow Old Seafordians over a round of golf and sharing memories of his time at Seaford College. “It has been a really nice day and anytime you can get on the golf course and meet up with some Old Seafordians is lovely”, said Matthew after his round. “It only feels like yesterday that I was at Seaford College, and I had a really lovely time at the school. We did play lots of golf and it is a wonderful sport for bringing people together, and today enables us to get together and remember our time at Seaford College.”
Seaford College Headmaster John Green felt the day was a huge success and was very happy to see so many Old Seafordians getting together on the golf course. “It has been a really lovely day and so many people have made the effort to be here”, he said. “It was really nice to see the Old Seafordians playing some of our current students and masters. We are very lucky to have a nine-hole golf course at Seaford College, and with our new golf professional Jack Halsey doing an excellent job with our students, there is a real buzz about golf around the school.”
The Old Seafordians golf team returned to the North Hants Golf Club last week to compete in the Grafton Morrish area qualifier, a competition for Old Boys Golf Societies. The Old Seafordians team finished 5th overall and qualified for the finals to be played in September. Congratulations to Nick Tull, Max Farrant, Neal Fox, Tim Banks, John Wheatley and Kieron Russell on qualifying for the final.
