Seaford sent a large team of athletes to the competition and there were many notable successes. In the Senior category, County and Regional athlete and talented triathlete Harry Leleu successfully defended his 3,000m title, whilst Jake McQuade won the Senior Shot Put and Olly Salkeld won the 200m. Charlotte Reading took first place in the 800m Senior Girls’ category.
In the Inter category, Tom Cowan won the 800m, Michael Logan the 100m, Arun Bulman the Shot Put and Calum Loeffen Ames the Javelin. The Inter Boys’ team also won the relay, and Elouise Lane won the 800m in the Inter Girls’ category.
Chichester Runners athlete Connie Stockman, fresh from a 4x300m relay victory in this season’s first Development League match at Sutton, won the Junior Girls’ Javelin. Connie is a Year 8 pupil from Seaford College Prep School who represents the Senior School, and so her win is even more impressive considering that she was competing against athletes who were older than her.
The Seaford team won the Junior Boys’ relay, whilst Dom Easton won the 300m Junior Boys’ category.
Jon Thompson, Head of Boys’ Athletics, said: ‘We performed very well, there were some top performances and we had so many athletes who took the top two places. All those who placed in the top two will go through to the County Finals in June.’
Many congratulations to every athlete who competed at the West Sussex West Competition, and best of luck to those who will be representing the Chichester, Bognor and Midhurst area in the Sussex Schools Championships at the K2 Stadium in Crawley in June.
