Pupils from the Seaford Equestrian Team spent a couple of days at the NSEA County Show Jumping Championships representing West Sussex as the top team in our County. Lucy Sanders, Seaford Equestrian Team Manager, reports:
There were thirty Counties in total from all over the UK being represented by each County Champion school so the competition was very tough.
The 85cm team was made up of Sophie Gosling, Beanie Bradley, Jessie Schute & Emily Cook who were one of very few teams who went through to the second round on zero faults having all jumped clear over the outdoor course.
The second part of the indoor course was against the clock and we were unlucky to roll a couple of poles despite excellent riding from the team. Seaford was placed 10th overall so in the top third of all equestrian schools in the UK.
The 95cm team was made up of Beanie Bradley, Jessie Schute, Flora James & Sophie Gosling. The jumps were huge and very technical but all our riders performed to their best ability and jumped beautifully. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side this time as we rolled a few poles over both the outdoor and indoor courses, ending up in 9th place. This was still a fantastic result as no school team jumped a clear round as the courses were so tough.
I am very proud of these Seaford girls. Their team spirit and standard of riding is extremely high and being competitive riders they put pressure on themselves to do well. It is hard not to pass nerves on to the horses and they kept their heads throughout the three days of intense competition.
Thank you to the parents for all their support and we look forward to our next competition at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May.
