Seaford’s Netball Coach selected to play for England

Natalie Miller, photographed at our Annual Sports Dinner with Pam Cookey and fellow Seaford netball coaches, Blaire Farrant and Bronwen JamesNatalie Miller, Seaford’s Netball Coach, has been selected for the England Indoor Nets Ladies squad for the Indoor World Championships in South Africa later this year.

Natalie, who was also part of the squad in 2016 when they won Gold in the World Championships in New Zealand, told us that she’s: “Over the moon! The secret is finally out. I can’t wait to represent my country again and go to South Africa to retain our title in August”.

There was a time when such an achievement wouldn’t have seemed possible. About a year ago, whilst playing in the national league, Natalie ruptured her achilles and was told by her surgeon that she wouldn’t be running for at least a year. She describes the time as being a real battle for her, both physically and mentally: “Being told what was ahead of me actually really spurred me on to attack my rehab. I wanted to get back and get fit”. It is this determination and effort that Natalie also puts into her coaching at Seaford.

Hear Natalie talk more about how she overcame her injury here:

Natalie has enjoyed her time her time since joining Seaford a few months ago. She told us; “It’s been absolutely brilliant. It’s great to come in during the netball season and be with such fantastic girls who are so willing to learn and want to get better at their netball”.

The girls clearly enjoy having Natalie coaching them too. Their respect and admiration for her achievement is evident. We overheard them telling her “Congratulations Miss, on your selection”.

Seaford Netball are due to embark on a tour to Malta at Easter, taking a mixture of different year groups. A great opportunity for the girls, it is hoped that they will enjoy themselves sufficiently to want to go on a long-haul tour in a couple of years’ time!
