Seaford College triumphed in the Intermediate section of the SUPA National Senior Schools Arena Polo Championships held at Longdole Polo Club in Gloucestershire last Sunday 22nd April. The team of Bart Baker riding Pukka, Alfie Hyde on TT and Nonie Uloth on Sombre took on teams from Stowe, St George’s Ascot and Heathfield.
They caught Stowe napping early on in the first chukka and Alfie Hyde used great skill to control the ball and drive it up the pitch whilst the other two did excellent man marking, producing a score of 5 – 0! The second chukka was much closer against a well organised and determined St George’s team but it was Alfie Hyde’s early goal that made the difference. The third chukka against Heathfield was altogether more dramatic. Nonie Uloth took the ball from the throw in down the arena and scored straight away. Another two goals saw the team 3 – 1 up before Alfie Hyde had a nasty fall when his pony, TT, came down. He was attended by paramedics and taken to Gloucester Hospital. After superb attention from the ambulance staff and a series of X-rays he was pronounced fit and well, although he will be bruised for a couple of days. The team continued with a substitute and managed to hold Heathfield to a draw to ensure victory in the Championships.
Thank you to Mr Rupert Uloth for the great match report and photos and we’re glad to report that Alfie is doing fine.
Congratulations Seaford Polo!
