Seaford’s athletes have worked hard during pre-season and opened up the summer with a regional fixture against West Sussex West, with the Inter Boys and Senior Boys winning the relay. “We started the season really well on Friday and all our athletes are excited about the summer ahead,” said Jon Thompson, the Head of Athletics at Seaford College.
Seaford’s athletes have two main training sessions a week and many also train with clubs in the local area. “We are lucky here at Seaford that we have excellent staff that can coach our athletes,” Jon explained after a training session last week. “My background is in sprinting so I tend to focus on track work with our sprinters and distance runners. We have a number of staff that can rotate and coach our athletes in different disciplines which is hugely beneficial for the students and their progress in the sport”.
Having represented Wales and competed at International level, Jon is passionate about the sport and says there is a large pool of talent at Seaford College. “It is my sport and we have some very talented athletes here at Seaford College”, he explained. “I enjoy seeing our athletes training, working hard and reaching their potential. We won over 20 medals last year at the County Finals and that shows how strong athletics is at Seaford College and we are looking forward to an exciting summer on the track.”
