Seaford host first Rugby 7’s and Netball Tournament

Rugby for Article 2 SmallSeaford College host a Rugby and Netball Tournament this Sunday (29th January) and both competitions are generating a large amount of interest across the country.

The Under 18’s Rugby Sevens Festival is the first 7’s Tournament that Seaford has hosted and sixteen schools are taking part.

The teams are split into four groups, with Seaford drawn in Group B alongside Epsom College, Emanuel and Shiplake College.

Each school that wins their group will compete for the inaugural Seaford Cup with further Bowl, Shield and Vase competitions for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams in each group. Each school is guaranteed to play five matches and it promises to be a hugely exciting competition.

The Netball Tournament will see five schools competing with many of the schools involved in the Rugby 7’s also bringing their Netball teams. This will be Seaford’s first Netball Tournament on a Sunday, and there will be a Cup and Plate competition, as the competing School’s bring both their 1st and 2nd Teams for a day of top class Netball.

We caught up with Head of Rugby, Ed Bowden, after a training session this week and he is looking forward to watching the schools compete for the Seaford Cup. “We are very excited to host our first 7’s tournament here at Seaford and it should be a great occasion,” he commented. “The Tournament has been really well received across the country and there are some very talented sides taking part which is great for the competition. Our squad is shaping up nicely for Sunday and it will be a fantastic day and a great opportunity for us to show our facilities and showcase Seaford College”.

Netball for Article SmallHead of Netball, Georgie Hegarty, is also excited about the day and is expecting a highly competitive Tournament.

Speaking after training this week she said,” We are really looking forward to the day and it will be a big event with lots of Netball and Rugby teams competing here at Seaford College. There are not many Sunday Netball tournaments so this is something new for us and the other Schools competing. We have strong 1st and 2nd team squads ready to go for Sunday and I have been really pleased with them in training and our matches so far this season”.
