Seaford College Hosts Shaw Care Homes for Christmas Lunch

FullSizeRenderweb1Seaford College was delighted to host carers and residents from Shaw Care Homes for a Christmas lunch at the school on Sunday. Following on from the success of last year, residents and carers from across the county came to Seaford to enjoy a festive meal, and were served by pupils from the school.
The residents and carers were from care homes in Burgess Hill, East Preston, Steyning, Bognor Regis, and Petworth, and warmly expressed their thanks to the school for hosting IMG_2370 (2)web2them.
One resident joked: ‘when can we come back?’ One gentleman had four portions of Christmas pudding, and another resident with a usually light appetite had two more portions, paying testament to Seaford College’s excellent catering and kitchen staff.
The residents and carers were entertained by a trio of singers and musicians from the school, with musical treats such as ‘O Holy Night,’ which were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Clive Thorpe, Community Coordinator, said: ‘I get satisfaction seeing our students interact in many different ways with people from very different backgrounds and ages, and from how they interact with each other in ways that they wouldn’t at school.’
FullSizeRender (2)web3Pupils who helped out in the event included Holly Busfield and Eleanore Derham, and international students Phoenix Zhor, Paul Moser, Lucia Ecija Rueda, Celia Sanchez Barragan, George Mumladze and Kakhaber Bakuradze. Clive Thorpe praised the students for the way their interacted with the visitors, singling out George Mumladze and Kakhaber Bakuradze, HMC Scholars from Georgia, for whom English is a third language.
Pupils and staff from Seaford College are looking forward to attending the Christmas fair at the Petworth Shaw Care Home, where they will help in activities such as bingo, as well as the next Christmas dinner event in 2015.
