Seaford College Hosts Choral Day for Local Schools

P1310850featureweb1Following last year’s hugely successful Choral Day, Seaford College Prep School welcomed talented and enthusiastic singers from Easebourne and Duncton Primary Schools, Amberley First School, Pennthorpe and Dunnanie (Bedales) Schools to a Singing Day on Tuesday. 45 visiting children joined with Seaford College Prep School’s own choir to enjoy a day away from the hustle and bustle of their normal lessons and immerse themselves in a day of fun and song.
Some of our visitors were experienced choir members and some were new to choral singing, so Seaford’s Head of Voice and Choirs, Sara Reynolds and Director of Music, Jeremy Weaver took time to make sure all the voices were warmed up and ready to go, before we started the main rehearsals. As a whole choir, the children were introduced to a jazzy version of Good King Wenceslas and the very beautiful carol One Candle Lights the Way, before splitting into their two parts for separate alto and soprano sessions.
The whole choir came together again after lunch in the school’s assembly hall, for the final rehearsals and their performance. The children were joined by band members who accompanied the performance as well as by two members of Seaford’s Chapel Choir, Holly Graham and Beci Eden who thrilled and amazed the audience with their wonderful singing of the Flower Duet from Lakme, by Leo Delibes. Freya Jenkins said, “I would love to be able to sing like Beci and Holly, they were brilliant, I was blown away by it.” Ben Clark added, “Since singing with Holly at the Gary Barlow concert this year I have been really inspired by her. I really enjoyed singing with the other schools today.”P1310860web2
Sebastian Rees, Headmaster of Seaford College Prep School told the choir that, “this was a wonderful day for all of us” and that he had been “really impressed with the quality of singing and speed with which you have all learnt your singing parts”.
Seaford College Prep School would like to thank all our visitors for helping to make this day such a success and very much hope they will come and sing with us again.
