Seaford College is continuing its highly successful run of senior drama productions with a presentation of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus. Following on from Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream the College’s Drama department, led by Dr Jane Askew, has decided to stay within the genre of Renaissance drama, and revisit a play that was extremely popular with its sixteenth century audience and which has, through many reinterpretations, maintained a fascination for audiences throughout its history. It is the timeless tale of a man dissatisfied with life, who sells his soul to the Devil in return for limitless knowledge, power and wealth. But the promise proves to be hollow and the price one of unimaginable horror.
Dr Askew is delighted to be supported once again by Jamie Klückers and his production team for set design, lighting and costumes, which combined with powerful and engaging cast performances, will bring this classic drama to life. The production will be staged at Seaford College on Thursday 27th November, Friday 28th November and Saturday 29th November. A pre-theatre dinner will be available on Friday 28th, enabling audience members to enjoy a relaxed two-course meal with wine in the College’s beautiful surroundings before the show commences.
Dr Askew said: “I am so fortunate to have such a talented and committed young cast to work with. This is quite a challenging piece and they are all working hard to bring clarity and meaning to their performance.”
Max Jukes, Theatre Studies student and cast member, said: “This play still has a lot to say to a modern audience, about the selfish pursuit of personal desires and what the consequences might be. It’s been a great team to work with… lots of fun in rehearsals as well as hard work, of course!”
Tickets for the show will cost £5, or £10 including dinner. Enquiries and bookings can be made via: email@example.com
