Seaford College’s Summer of Athletics Success

County Athletics medallist 2014 001webAthletics continues to go from strength to strength and the 2014 season has been a great success. Seaford College have very talented boys & girls and punch above their weight in many of the fixtures when they face much bigger schools than themselves.
In the WSW area Championships in May Seaford’s Inter boys won overall with 14 winners in various events. In a match versus Hurstpierpoint , Worth & Eastbourne Seaford’s Inter boys won and they kept that success up in beating Charterhouse & Cranleigh just after half term.
In June, Seaford’s Year 9 and 10 boys and girls competed at athletics v Hurstpierpoint Col-lege and Ardingly with great success. Year 10 boys were 1st and Year 9 came 2nd overall. Top wins on the track came from Jake Goosen 100m, Hugo Squires 200m, Nick Frost 400m, Tom Cowan 800m & Elliott Lewis 1500m & in the field for Kai Shadforth Discus, Olly Crosdil Discus & Elnur Eyybuv Shot.
Notable performances this season have been – Harry Leleu smashing the senior 1500m rec-ord at the K2 meeting, James King winning most Senior, Triple Jump & Long Jump. Likewise in the Inter boys Jasper Brazier has lost just one 100m race in three years. Tom Cowan is unbeaten at 800m this term. Jess Millbourne is Seafords top girl performer, winning the county discus and Jess Clay too is a talent. Ellie Stevens is Seafords best junior girl athlete. Henry Blackwell & Olly Crosdil are the best two junior boys.
The final outing of the term for all main athletes was the County Finals held at Crawley in mid-June. Seaford had 18 athletes competing (having been selected from WSW)
The best Seaford performance on the day was from Harry Leleu, winning County Champion Gold medal in the 3000m
Silver medals – James King Long Jump & Olly Salkeld 200m, Harry Marchant 400m Hurdles-Bronze medals- Byron Clark Discus, James King Triple Jump, Elnur Eyybuv Shot ,Zach Hodson Long Jump & relay, Anton Austin 100m Hurdles, Jasper Brazier & Jake Goosen in relay. Harry Leleu & Brownlee Brothers Petworth House Triathlon
The day after winning the 3000m, Harry Leleu won the Youth event at the Petworth Park Triathlon, beating his GB rival. Harry was congratulated by the Brownlee brothers who were taking part in the senior event.
