John Ellerton Memorial – a great celebration

Last Saturday saw the memorial service for John Ellerton in the Seaford College dining room. John Had been Housemaster of Millburgh House, run the CCF RAF section and, latterly, a prime mover in the Graffham Rustics and the Petworth and District Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

A great many of John’s Old Boys joined his family and other friends in a celebration of his wonderful life. There were tributes from all the areas of John’s life – stories from the family, the boarding house, the CCF and the G&S. All these wonderful stories and anecdotes were punctuated by musical pieces, beautifully sung. The whole event was compered by Giles White (Old Seafordian) who told a number of wonderful jokes from John’s collection that he had skillfully written down over the years.

It was a spectacular event, with some exceptional musical talent on show – John would have enjoyed it immensely!
