Successful Toulon Trip for U16 Rugby Team

On December 12th the U16 rugby team departed for a short tour to Toulon. The team were fortunate to have incredible weather – a staggering 18 degrees! This allowed two evening matches to be played, of which one was lost and the other won.

The first game was against Pays Six Fournais, on the day of arrival. Despite a slow start the team gradually settled and played some exciting rugby. The game was lost 35-28 but the team were tired after a days traveling and Alfie Renwick was man of the match having scored four tries. The second match, a couple of days later, was against RC Ollioulais which was won 28-10. This was an exciting game with both teams looking to attack and score tries. The lead was gained by Seaford early on and despite the constant threat from the opposition the defence held out and the team earned their fantastic win.

The hospitality from both opponents was excellent, providing the team with gifts and items of clothing as souvenirs. The team was a credit to the school and gained a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a private training session with Jonny Wilkinson & Tom Whitford. This included handling drills, attacking play and a game of touch at the end, in which Jonny joined in!

On the final afternoon the squad watched Toulon train and met many other famous players including Steffon Armitage, Simon Shaw & Matt Giteau. Fortunately the team also managed to have a tour of Stade Mayol and watched an evening match of Toulon vs Agen. With an electric atmosphere and everything else the touring team had experienced in their time in Toulon it will be a tour to never be forgotten!
